It seems that being this is the first post on a new blog that I should open with bells and whistles. Maybe something catchy or witty and yet the only thing I can come up with is a very irritating chant/song about announcements –ugh!! It’s the one that ALL the junior highers shout at church camp when a counselor stands up to make, well, announcements, and the junior highers bang on the table with their fists while they
You know it, don’t you?
Announcements, Announcements, Announcements
Announcements, Announcements, Annooooouuuuuuuuuuncements!
Ooooh, Angela’s got another one, ‘nother one, ‘nother one,
Angela’s got another one, she has them all the time…. (repeat ad nauseum)
Phew! Just thinking about that umm… “fun” camp tune makes me break a sweat.
So there you have it. That’s my bells and whistles, catchy and witty introduction.
We have an announcement!
We are adopting! Yes!!! There it is. The cat is out of the bag. Adopting. We couldn’t be more excited. At the same time we are sure we are in over our heads. We are equally sure this is exactly what God has called us to.
So, why the blog? So you can join us on this journey. We want you to be a part of it. So you can pray for us, or ask questions, or partner with us, or simply enjoy seeing the story unfold.
So where are we in this process?
We are in the very beginning.
We are in the midst of our home study; a process that qualifies us to adopt. We are knee deep in paperwork. We are getting fingerprints and background checks. We have scheduled a fire inspection, we are getting physicals, we are reading books and taking classes and we have met with our social worker. And we will meet with her a couple more times. In fact she is coming over to the house this week to do a safety audit on our home and interview Brett….yup, just Brett (Thursday, March 17th). My turn is the following week.
After the interviews and a few other details we will be home study approved. We should have the approval in 6 – 8 weeks. We’ll officially be “paper pregnant.”
Then. We. Wait.
We could have our baby in months or in years. We will trust in the Lord and His timing.
So why announce now?
Lots of reasons really. We are excited. We want you to know. We hope for your prayers.
Today is the third day of Lent. A season of reflection. A season of learning. A season of repentance and sacrifice. A season of drawing closer to the Lord. Lent is a time when we hunker-down with the Lord, get re-serious, more-committed. We stop. We listen.
We would be so humbled and blessed if you would spend some of your “hunkered-down-time-with-the-Lord” this lent for us. For this journey. This adoption. For the orphan that will one day call our home theirs. For the birthparents.
We covet your prayers. It is so important to us that we have a base of people praying for us and with us through this journey. Please let us know if you are praying for us. We want to be able to bless you back with our prayers for you and your family.
